MARKET MONTHLY: Traded volumes lift to YTD high in July as renewed buyer engagement tests the market

Total traded volumes reported to RepuTex’s Survey Panel lifted to a year-to-date (YTD) high in July, surpassing January, with trading bolstered by a surge in derivatives activity. RepuTex’s Generic ACCU (Market Close) assessment settled at $38.25/t (+$0.40/t MoM), with the monthly volume-weighted average price (VWAP) of all units (ACCUs and SMCs) lifting to $37.99/t as a flurry of buy-side activity provided signs of renewed engagement into month-end. Brokered volumes similarly lifted to YTD highs, with Jarden continuing to dominate flow, ahead of GFI, with a further gap to the rest of the broker market.

Broader market direction hinges on the impending Safeguard Mechanism Review, with a discussion paper outlining initial policy positions for market feedback now imminent.

This monthly State of the Australian Carbon Market report provides a detailed review of activity in the ACCU spot and derivative markets over the past month, including pricing and traded volumes for spot, forward and options, market depth, net market holdings (inventory), and our OTC ACCU forward curves.
