Dear Subscriber,
Our latest Australian Carbon Offset Market Update has now been published.
The Australian carbon market has continued its positive run into 2022, with the tight supply setting translating into higher spot prices and increasing activity in the forward market. The spot price for Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) has grown 11.8% in January, while forward volumes and prices have surged to record highs as compliance buyers settle their obligations and turn their attention to the forward compliance year. Forward demand also continues to grow from investors and intermediaries entering the market in response to recent price growth and the positive macro environment for low-carbon assets. Internationally, prices for nature-based offsets have also rocketed to record highs in January behind increasing investor interest in avoidance and nature-based removal offsets.
This report provides a snapshot of current activity in the Australian and international voluntary carbon markets, including spot and forward price dynamics, offset issuance and voluntary cancellations. Analysis considers Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) and voluntary offsets across key international registries including Verra, Gold Standard, the American Carbon Registry, and the Climate Action Reserve.
