Our State of the Australian Carbon Market report for August 2024 has now been published, reviewing activity in the Australian carbon market over the last month.
The Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) market saw a significant boost in activity over August, with total traded volumes more than doubling from July as derivatives trading surged to significantly outpace year to date averages. Prices for both our Generic ACCU (Benchmark) price and HIR ACCU price assessments grew to five-month highs, as buying interest remained constant, with bid-ask spreads tightening as market participation deepened. As we have noted in recent updates, our forward curves continue to show underpriced upside risk, particularly in futures markets, as demand for long-term contracts slowly rises.
RepuTex’s monthly State of the Australian Carbon Market provides a detailed review of activity in the spot and forward ACCU markets, including pricing and traded volumes for spot, forward and options contracts, along with market depth and net market balance.
