In May, DCCEEW published a new draft landfill gas method outlining updated rules for crediting emission reductions from landfills, introducing higher default crediting baselines, increasing over time, and a 12-year crediting period extension for existing projects that transition to the new method.
Modelling in our earlier analyst briefing (May 2025) estimated that the new landfill gas method would generate an additional 17 million ACCUs, materially re-shaping Australia’s supply landscape, at a time when the market was previously expected to tighten.
In this webinar recording, RepuTex Head of Research, Mr. Bret Harper, summarises the outcomes of our latest Carbon Market Outlook (CMO) for June 2025, including the impact of the new landfill gas method on price development.
Specifically, outcomes indicate that increased supply attributed to the new landfill gas method will defer our previously modelled market tightening – materially flattening potential price uplift – with prices now forecast to remain under $100/t through 2035.
