The Australian carbon market followed a familiar pattern last week before closing higher, with Generic ACCUs reaching a new year-to-date high. Updated registry data indicates ACCU issuance remains firm, supported by a notable contribution from a single project. As FY26 draws to a close, in this weekly update we reflect on the year that was across Australia’s spot and derivatives carbon markets, including market turnover, key trends and expectations for the year ahead.

Generic ACCUs again reach new YTD high on end of week bullish momentum, but will this sustain?

Total traded volumes across the Australian exchange-traded and over the counter (OTC) carbon markets lifted to 825k last week (+270k WoW), well above the year-to-date (YTD) weekly average (562k).

Spot volumes (650k, +145k WoW) again drove the bulk of activity at 79% of the weekly total, down from 91% a week earlier.
