As the federal government considers changes to its climate policy framework, including new Safeguard Mechanism Credits (SMCs) for emissions below industry sector baselines, the price of Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) remains a key signal for large-scale emissions abatement activity, and possible SMC price formation.
In this event, we present our Base Case outlook for ACCU prices from 2020-30 based on new appropriations to the Commonwealth’s Climate Solutions Fund (CSF) and increased state-level appetite for ACCUs.
Key topics include:
- ACCU spot price dynamics – A look at historical ACCU spot price dynamics over 2020, the impact of COVID-19 on traded volumes and market fundamentals;
- ACCU price forecast to 2030 (Base Case) – Where to for ACCU prices under current policy? What impact will new appropriations to the CSF and state-level demand have on supply-demand fundamentals and price formation?
- Considerations for long-term price development – What are the key influences on long-term ACCU price formation to 2030-50, and potential price impacts?
