Australian polls indicate stronger primary support for the Labor Party and the Greens, with polling continuing to point towards a second successive hung parliament and a possible minority government. Increased support for the progressive parties since the return of Kevin Rudd suggests that the Australian Carbon Price Mechanism (CPM) is here to stay, regardless of the outcome of the forthcoming election. Moreover, should the Government be returned, the prospect of a ‘greener’ ETS is likely to take shape, with the Greens able to flex their muscle in the Senate, pushing Australia toward an environmentally stringent carbon market.
