Over 2.6 million ACCUs were traded across the spot and forward markets in April, reflecting reported volumes available to the market as a whole (excluding confidential submissions to our survey panel). Just over 2 million ACCUs were traded in the spot market – marking the fourth time volumes have surpassed 2 million. Whilst spot volumes declined 7.3% month-on-month (MoM), April volumes were 63% higher than 2023 levels, indicating strong market growth over the last 12 months. This is also reflected via improving liquidity, and the increasing availability of two-way markets. Notably, forwards and options activity continues to build, with April volumes reaching a 15-month high, the majority of activity remaining short-dated.
