To overcome a “go-slow” in the Senate, the government today moved a motion calling for an expedited vote on the Clean Energy (Carbon Tax Repeal) Bills in the Senate, with the Clean Energy (Carbon Tax Repeal) Bill negatived at a third reading (33-29).
The bill is likely to return to the lower house prior to the end of June following the requisite three month deferral of the defeated legislation, and is now expected to enter the new Senate between July 7-17, 2014.
The vote signifies an intensifying of the carbon debate in the lead up to the April 5 Senate
