As lowest-cost opportunities are progressively exhausted across the ACCU Scheme’s most prominent methods, including landfill gas and avoided deforestation, while others are sunset, such as HIR, market focus has been turning towards the next tranche of cheapest-to-deliver units.
However, as of October 2026, just 10 active ACCU methods remain available for new project registrations, with several facing significant barriers to deployment. Within this limited pool, Plantation Forestry (PF) is a well-established method, with interest increasing rapidly in recent years. Total PF project registrations have risen 635% since FY22, with 38% of all registrations occurring in FY26 alone – now accounting for 11% of all registered ACCU projects.
This growth has yet to translate into significant issuance, with PF accounting for under 1% of cumulative ACCU issuance and just 3% of annual issuance in FY26. However, with over three-quarters of PF projects still yet to issue, the expanding pipeline is expected to drive significant growth in issuance over the coming years.
In this Analyst Briefing, we examine the key features of the PF method, the drivers behind rising registrations and plantation establishment, and the implications for future ACCU supply within our near-term forecast and beyond.
