MARKET MONTHLY: July sees second highest monthly volumes on record derivatives activity

Total ACCU traded volumes of 4.4M were reported via our Survey Panel in July, 2.2x the same period last year, as the seasonal lull in trading ended early in 2025, driven by strong derivatives activity. Notably, July saw a record high in derivatives trading amidst accelerated growth in options activity as participants implemented longer-term hedging strategies around key policy timelines.

This monthly State of the Australian Carbon Market provides a comprehensive review of trading activity in the ACCU spot and derivative markets over the past month, including pricing and traded volumes for spot, forward and options, analysis of market depth, net market holdings (inventory), and our proprietary ACCU forward curves.
