MARKET MONTHLY: Record derivatives volumes in October, bolstered by a surge in options trading

Our State of the Australian Carbon Market report for October 2024 has now been published, reviewing activity in the Australian carbon market over the last month.

Traded volumes reported under our Survey Panel process (excluding confidential submissions) reached 3.6M in October – the third highest on record. Activity was driven by record derivatives trading volumes, surpassing the previous record set in September 2023 by 15%, while spot volumes fell just below year-to-date averages. Volumes reported to RepuTex over 2024 have now surpassed total 2023 levels, highlighting significant growth in the market.

This monthly State of the Australian Carbon Market provides a detailed review of activity in the spot and derivative ACCU markets over October, including pricing and traded volumes for spot, forward and options contracts, analysis of market depth, forward curves, and net market balance.
