Our latest Medium Term Carbon Market Outlook (MT CMO) has now been published. This quarterly report presents our medium-term expectations for ACCU and SMC prices, along with underlying supply-demand fundamentals, over a 10-year horizon.
On 10 September, the Australian Greens announced a new policy position on Australia’s carbon market, committing to disallow the forthcoming Integrated Farm and Land Management (IFLM) method. The announcement creates a new source of uncertainty for future ACCU supply. While existing HIR projects would continue to issue, the forthcoming IFLM method is expected to become an important source of new project development as the market moves through a key period of tighter supply in the late 2020s.
Within this Medium Term CMO, we therefore model a “No IFLM” sensitivity, assuming the successful disallowance of the IFLM method, examining the implications for medium-term ACCU supply and prices. This is presented alongside our core scenario framework – including our Central Case, Slow Decarbonisation, Accelerated Decarbonisation and Stretch Target (70%) scenarios – over a 10-year horizon.
