The Australian carbon market remained subdued last week, with spot trading leading the subdued market and more activity in the ASX ACCU futures exchange. Generic and HIR ACCU prices fell as sellers exerted downward pressure on thin liquidity, though key support levels held steady. Internationally, the regulatory outlook for the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) has turned bearish after initial positive sentiment following COP29, where Article 6 implementation agreements were signed yet climate financing goals fell short.

Last week saw the Australian carbon market continue a recent lull in activity, with total weekly volumesmarginally increasing on the week prior to 401k (+5.5% week-on-week / WoW). Activity was driven by spot trading, despite volumes sitting 13% below year-to-date averages.
