The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) has today released its Consultation Paper outlining options to align the Safeguard Mechanism with Australia’s 2035 emissions reduction target and Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).
DCCEEW will undertake a multi-stage review process, beginning with a Consultation Paper and public consultation, followed by a Position Paper and Exposure Draft in Q1 2027 outlining the proposed reforms.
