Dear Subscriber,
Our latest Australian Carbon Offset Market Update has now been published.
The Australian carbon market experienced a major bull run over the course of 2021, with prices for Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) growing 209% to end-December, a 23% increase over the final month of the year. Traded volumes also surged over 2021, with secondary transactions (excluding the ERF) increasing 76% on 2020 levels, with almost ¾ of all action (72%) in the form of direct contracting between developers and offtakers. Based on total volumes and average prices the value of the Australian secondary market is estimated to have grown 168% on 2020 levels, with continued growth in voluntary demand potentially pointing to a sustained period of higher prices.
This report provides a snapshot of current activity in the Australian and international voluntary carbon markets, including spot and forward price dynamics, offset issuance and voluntary cancellations.
